Abstract

Widely used tribological terms “wear process”, “wear”, “wear resistance” are analyzed in wording applied in GOST 27674-88 and DSTU 2823-94. It is shown, that term “wear process” combines such processes as destruction and de-formation. Although deformation frequently precedes destruction, they are quite different phenomena and it is not correct to associate both of them with “wear process” term. It is highlighted that “wear” term should be distinguished only as a result of “wear process” evaluated by material volume loss. Therefore the volume unit is the only could be applied to “wear” term, which may be determined via mass loss or linear dimensions change. According to GOST 27674-88 and DSTU 2823-94 the “wear resistance” is determined to be inversely proportional to wear rate or wear intensity. As it is shown in article, the wear resistance can be correct calculated only as а value inversely proportional to wear intensity.
