Comparative analysis of characteristics of hydrostatical thrust bearings with a smooth cylindrical pivot and with a screw-thread on it’s surface

Abstract

A theoretical analysis of static characteristics of hydrostatic thrust bearings with a smooth cylindrical pivot and with a screw-thread on it’s surface is performed. It is shown that the execution multistart screw-thread on the cylindrical surface of the pivot increases the thrust load capacity by 25 % and reduce power losses due to friction is approximately 2 times when the radial gap of about 10 microns.
